The Consciousness Key (Forthcoming Book)
Chapter 1: Introduction
I’ve been working on a new book about consciousness for the last few years, and I am now ready to begin putting together the chapters. I want to share my drafts in progress here for members of the Worldview Design Studio, where I keep an evolving library of my “peer reviewed” publications in progress.
In this particular book, I want to show how I think you can see something, by your own light, about the nature of reality. My aim isn’t merely to make a case for a metaphysical view, but instead I aim to help you see your own powers to test and see for yourself, while I also inviting you to own the journey. This is a “discovery of a treasure in a journey through idea-tension” type of book, which seems to be a signature style that I love the most.
Your feedback is deeply and sincerely valued, as it helps shape the development and presentation of ideas I regard as among the most important. So to get me started, I offer below a very rough, first draft of an introduction to the book.
A note here about my process. I’ve found it helpful in writing to be willing to get something started even before I see clearly what to say or how to say it. The process of doing something often helps me gain some clarity and more importantly, momentum.
This book in particular has been challenging for me to start because every time I sit down to work on it, I have 2 or 3 diverging ideas for what would be a good path of presentation. I realize that if I take any path, I cut off the others. I can’t say everything, and it feels easier to say nothing. Such is life: forward motion is risky and takes courage. So, with a feeling of inspiration, I simply take the next step.
I also feel very excited by what I want to offer. I genuinely have come to think it is possible to actually see (with a clarity amidst many weeds that can obscure sight) some important aspects of reality right within you, and then to trace logical deductions to some striking results about the fundamental nature of all possible realties. My excitement even in this moment is very great indeed. But this very excitement is actually another obstacle to my writing anything, because I want it to be good!
The construction of the good is one step at a time. So here it goes something:
Chapter 1: Introduction
In this book, my goal is to offer you a pathway to knowledge. I think it is possible to actually see something, a treasure, about the nature of reality.
